SM3002
High Speed Servo Motor
![]()
The SM3002 is a 2.0 horsepower (1.5 kW) High Speed Servo Motor that has been developed as an alternative to inefficient and high maintenance air motors. The unit uses a 30,000 rpm, water cooled, servo motor to produce exceptional performance in a compact and light weight package. The motor utilizes a manual "ER" Series collet that has the ability to clamp a very wide range of tool shaft diameters. With a manual collet operator intervention is required when the media needs to be replaced. For applications where the abrasive media or the tools have a long life the manual collet is the ideal solution. The SM3002 can be easily mounted in any orientation using the thru holes provided in the motor housing. |

The SM3002 is PushCorp's smallest, lightest and fastest motor.
Weighing in at 8 pounds (3.6 Kg), with 2 hp (1.5 kW), and a 30,000 RPM top speed, the
motor excels in applications such as high-speed routing and de-burring. Servomotor
technology keeps the rotational speed within +/-5% of the commanded speed and provides
efficiencies of over 90%. This helps to greatly reduce your operating costs. The SM3002 was developed in response to customer requests for a high-speed electric motor to replace inefficient air motors. Electric servomotors are extremely efficient, and can maintain command speeds very accurately over a wide load range as compared to air motors. For example, an air motor with similar power and speed would require over 20 cfm at 90 psi. This means that the compressor to power the air motor would consume two to three times the energy of the electric servomotor. This is in addition to the initial cost of a 5 hp air compressor, and related maintenance of the air system. Operating cost savings of electric servomotors over their life easily offset the extra expense compared to air motors. As an added bonus a servomotor will provide essentially zero maintenance and much longer life. |
Integral water-cooling allows the motor size to be reduced, thereby minimizing the weight.
This means that the SM3002 can provide an extremely high power-to-weight ratio, and allow
you to use a smaller, less expensive robot. Water cooling can be done with either a
flow-through method or an inexpensive recirculating cooling unit. The SM3002 allows the use of a large number of readily available cutting tools since it utilizes a standard, ER-11 Collet. The collet is available in a wide range of increments from 1/16 to 1/4 inch (0.5mm - 7 mm). Powering up the motor requires the user to install and wire the servo amplifier and connect the PushCorp supplied high-flex cables. The motor cables have rugged military style connectors for convenient attachment to the servo motor. Finally, servomotors can be fine tuned for various speeds and tool inertia, to provide very accurate tool cutting velocities. This is important in automated systems, since the smaller the variation, the better. Maintaining a constant speed will yield a better finish and allow parts with greater variation to be processed. The SM3002 is a unique tool that is ready to help save you money. To arrange for a consignment unit, contact the PushCorp sales office. |
